Below you'll find the top 10 things we recommend doing when you're here.

Most of these things are within walking distance from the Oval Motel. Just park your car for free and enjoy!

1. Pop-in to the Bendigo Visitor Centre

The best place to start! You'll get friendly advice on booking attractions & tours.

The staff are incredibly knowledgeable about Bendigo.

Getting There: As you exit the Oval Motel turn RIGHT and then take the first LEFT onto View Street. Walk down to the Fountain and turn LEFT.  Walk for 500 metres. It's just after the lights on your LEFT.

2. Explore the Central Deborah Goldmine

Explore the underground tunnels of a real gold mine or jump on a Bendigo Talking Tram tour. 

If you're feeling adventurous you can go 228 metres underground on Australia's deepest underground mining tour.

Getting There

Head down View St. Turn RIGHT at the fountain and walk down High Street. You’ll see it on the LEFT hand side.

It’s about a 15-minute walk or 5-minute drive.

3. Visit Bendigo Pottery

Shop from a range of pottery from slow cooking casseroles and pie plates, to contemporary shapes and hand painted platters and dinnerware.

Try your hand on the potter's wheel with Wheel Throwing lessons

Getting There

Head down View St. Turn LEFT at the fountain and drive for 9 minutes. You'll see Bendigo Pottery on your RIGHT hand side.

4. Climb the Rosalind Park Poppet Head

Get a stunning 360-degree view of Bendigo and Rosalind Park. Look down on the  Bendigo Heritage Mosaic. Designed to be looked at from the tower, it depicts various aspects of Bendigo's history.

Getting There

It's only a 2-minute walk from the Oval Motel. Just walk across the road, through the gate and past the Queen Elizabeth Oval.

5. Stroll down Bendigo’s Iconic View Street

Take some time to meander through the boutique design and antique shops.

Cost: Free (Unless you buy up big!)

As you exit the Oval Motel turn RIGHT and then take the first LEFT onto View Street. You don't have to walk far to find your 1st boutique store.

6. Wander through the Bendigo Art Gallery

See a wonderful collection of paintings & sculptures. Enjoy world class exhibitions.

Cost: Usually a cold coin donation. Exhibitions normally will cost you about $15 for an adult. Children are often free.

7. Shop at the Bendigo Marketplace

Shop in air-conditioned comfort at Bendigo’s largest shopping centre.

As you exit the Oval Motel turn RIGHT and then take the first LEFT onto View Street. The Bendigo Marketplace is a 10-minute walk on your RIGHT hand side.

8. Explore the Chinese Museum & Gardens

See Chinese arts & crafts. Wander through the beautiful Yi Yuan (Garden of Joy).

9. Stroll Around lake Weroona

Walk, jog or cycle around the lake.  Visit the playground & boardwalk Café.

As you exit the Oval Motel turn LEFT. Walk for about 15-minutes and turn right onto Nolan Street (At the lights). The lake is a 3-minute walk on your LEFT.

10. Walk through Rosalind Park

Enjoy 60 acres of grassy open spaces, ornate statues and beautiful old gardens.
