(Thanks to the Bendigo Tourism website)
It was originally a poppet head for one of Bendigo’s richest mines, the Garden Gully United Mine.
Prior to the poppet head’s installation, a flag used to be flown to tell the rest of Bendigo that the mail had arrived.
At the foot of the poppet head lookout you’ll find the Bendigo Heritage Mosaic. The artist, Maery Garbriel designed the mosaic which was completed in 1987.
